Library’s Platform Lift
Timperley Library is a purpose built attractive modern building sited at Stockport Road in this north west of England village close to Altrincham in Cheshire.
Aware of its requirement to provide access for less able visitors to the library Trafford Metropolitan Borough Council decided on the installation of a powered access platform lift. The model chosen was the MC2000 Platform Lift which does not require a conventional lift shaft and the suppliers, Invalifts Ltd, worked in close conjunction with Trafford council to design the scheme so as to incorporate the lift with a full size platform measuring 1.4m by 1.1m.
This could only be achieved because of the footprint size of the MC2000 being so small and measuring just 1.56m by 1.25m. Special 1000mm wide doors were also fitted at no extra cost on to the long sides of the enclosure to provide easier access and egress.
The MC2000 is a high quality guided chain driven platform lift which complies with all UK and EC electrical and machinery directives. It has its own self supporting shaft, does not need a machine room and only requires a pit of just 60mm. Its rated load is 400kg with a maximum capacity of five persons.
The model, installed in the main reception area, has a travel height of 3.14m from the ground to the first floor with a total shaft height of 5.3m. Powder coat finished in white, it is fitted with a key locking system to prevent misuse together with arrival gongs and voice announcement at both floors. Automatic doors were installed at all levels and the self supporting shaft was glazed on three sides.
Installation time for the MC2000 is usually just six to eight weeks from the placement of the order to installation by the company’s six teams of installation engineers. The model can reach up to 13 metres and serve up to six floor levels.
