Iconic Listed Building gets a Platform Lift
Located just two minutes walk from the historic Gloucester Cathedral is Gloucester Antiques Centre. Spread over three floors, the building, located in the ancient Cathedral Quarter, is one of Britain’s finest examples of a medieval timber-framed house. In addition to displaying a huge range of antiques and collectibles, the building is steeped in history and is said to have been used as a military HQ during the famous 1643 Siege of Gloucester.
To enable access to the upper floors and tea room, Invalifts were contacted to provide a disabled access lift for three different levels of the building with a total travel distance of 6.5 metres.
After visiting the listed building, our lift experts recommended the MC2000 platform lift with a shaft size of 1250mm x 1560mm providing a fully Part M compliant disabled access platform size of 1120mm x 1480mm.
The client requested that the lift shaft was to be finished in a specific dark grey powder coated finish with stainless steel handles, whilst the shaft and doors were glazed to let light into the building. The lift can be specified with doors in different configurations, and the client chose to have the doors on the long side of the lift offering one metre wide openings.
As the lift comes complete with it’s own self-supporting shaft, minimal building works were required, and no supporting walls or lifting beams were required for the installation. To avoid disturbance to the floor, a small ramp was fitted in lieu of the normal 60mm pit.
The platform lift is supplied with emergency battery lowering and a telephone for emergency contact as standard. The client also chose to include a basic service contract covering maintenance for the first 12 months of use.
The lift comes with a full parts and labour warranty for 12 months, with a 5 year parts warranty on the motor and gearbox and a 10 year warranty on the drive chains, providing the Antiques Centre with peace of mind for the future.
