The Manna House, Tamworth – Extra Support for a Centre that Cares
The Manna House in partnership with Tamworth Elim Church is a Christian charity in Staffordshire tackling poverty and social isolation. The centre runs a foodbank three times a week, a community cafe and various other community groups, offering a friendly smile and a welcoming space to meet other people in a similar situation.

Making Every Floor Accessible
Run by over a hundred volunteers, its clients include parents with young children looking to meet other families, over-60s looking to socialise with those of a similar age and people who for whatever reason may need someone to talk to and share their worries. With such a range of clients, it is important to The Manna House that people feel seen and supported when they visit, and that the centre can accommodate everyone.
“The Manna House is a real hub of activity, and you can see the value and support they offer to anyone who visits,” said Jason King, Invalifts Sales Director.
“When they approached us about installing a lift, we could see that this would make a huge difference to their clients and volunteers, especially as some of them had physical needs that meant they couldn’t, or found it difficult to, access the first floor.”
A Practical, Cost-Effective Solution
With its space-saving footprint and generous internal dimensions that can fit a wheelchair user and an additional person, the Motala 2000 Platform Lift was a perfect fit for The Manna House.
“I believe it is always important when visiting a potential client to try to offer them the right product with the right features to suit their needs, while always being aware of their budget and financial restraints,” Jason added.
“For example, the Motala platform lift is normally located in a 60mm recess in the lower landing but to save expensive and intrusive building work for the client, we suggested they opted for a ramp instead of forming the recess. This still makes the platform lift very user friendly but saved the client a substantial amount of cost and disruption.”

Better Access for Everyone
Once the platform lift had been installed and running for a few months, Invalifts revisited The Manna House to speak to members of the team to find out how the lift was working for them.
Catherine Brown, Operations Manager at the Manna House said, “We use the lift every day. It really helps both members of staff and volunteers who are wheelchair users or who have mobility difficulties. We also host different groups in the Manna House who are now able to use the upstairs easily. Without a doubt, the lift has maximised how we use our space and made it accessible to all.”

Giving Back to the Community
As part of an Easter gesture from Invalifts, we arranged to deliver a selection of assorted easter eggs to The Manna House to be distributed as part of the easter egg appeal to their food bank users.
“We will not be here to see the smiles on some of the faces, when the easter eggs get distributed as part of the food bank,” said Jason King, “but it is nice to be able to do something nice at easter and I have to admit, it was nice to walk away with a warm feel inside, knowing such a small gesture will make a big difference to others who are struggling.”
