What’s Included in Every Planned Maintenance Visit?
Every maintenance visit follows the manufacturer’s recommended service schedule, with each inspection recorded before the engineer leaves the site.
- Inspection: Each visit includes a thorough inspection of the lift’s key safety and operating systems, including safety circuits, controls, drive components, emergency lowering functions, platform levelling, and door or gate interlocks. Any signs of wear or developing faults are identified early to help prevent unexpected breakdowns.
- Servicing: Routine maintenance includes lubrication of mechanical components, adjustments where required, wear checks on critical parts, and operational testing to confirm the lift is functioning correctly. Where repairs are recommended, we’ll explain the work required and provide clear advice on the next steps.
- Reporting: On completion, you’ll receive a detailed service report outlining the work carried out, any observations made during the visit, and recommendations for future maintenance or repairs. We also maintain accurate service records to support compliance and the ongoing management of your lift.
Get to Know LOLER
The Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER) require passenger-carrying lifts used in workplaces to undergo a thorough examination by a competent person every six months. Each examination must be documented with a written report, helping building owners demonstrate compliance and identify any defects that could affect the safe operation of the lift.
It’s important to understand that LOLER inspections and routine maintenance are not the same thing. Planned maintenance keeps your lift operating safely and reliably through regular servicing, while a LOLER examination is an independent statutory inspection that assesses whether the lift remains safe to use.
For commercial buildings where LOLER applies, our Bronze+, Silver+, Gold, and Platinum maintenance contracts include two LOLER thorough examinations and certification each year, making it easier to keep your lift compliant and your records up to date.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
How often should a commercial lift be serviced?
The recommended servicing frequency depends on the type of lift, how often it’s used, and the environment it’s installed in. Low-use lifts may only require two planned maintenance visits each year, while lifts in busy commercial buildings often benefit from four or more visits to maintain reliability and compliance.
-
Is LOLER included?
LOLER thorough examinations are included with our Bronze+, Silver+, Gold, and Platinum maintenance contracts. If your lift is used in a workplace or public building, we’ll help you choose a contract that includes the appropriate level of certification.
-
What's the difference between servicing and LOLER?
Planned servicing keeps your lift operating safely and reliably through routine maintenance, inspections, and adjustments. A LOLER examination is a separate statutory inspection carried out by a competent person to confirm that the lift remains safe to use and complies with legal requirements.
-
Can I upgrade my contract?
Absolutely. If your building’s requirements change or your lift usage increases, you can move to a higher level of maintenance cover at any time.
-
What happens if my lift breaks down?
If your lift develops a fault, contact our service team and we’ll arrange for an engineer to attend in line with the terms of your maintenance contract. Where possible, repairs will be completed during the visit, or we’ll advise on any additional work required.
